Engineers, Scientists and Balloon Pilots Recreate Scene from Pixar's Up

Engineers have recreated the scene from Up in real life. On Saturday morning, March 5, at dawn, a team of scientists, engineers and balloon pilots successfully launched a 16' x 16' house 18' tall with 300 8' colored weather balloons from a private airfield east of Los Angeles. They set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted. The entire experimental aircraft was more than 10 stories high and reached an altitude of over 10,000 feet. It flew for approximately one hour.

The footage will be part of a new National Geographic Channel series called How Hard Can It Be?, which will premiere in fall 2011. Take a look:

Default Ther is brave and there is BRAVE

I remember this event well and I can remember thinking, "What would happen if the tether was made by the low bidder?"

    ON THIS DAY

On March 18, 1965, the first spacewalk took place as Soviet cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov left his Voskhod 2 capsule and remained outside the spacecraft for 20 minutes, secured by a tether.

Now that might be the thought were the Space Walker been an American . . But in Russia at that time, there were no "Bidders" and everything was made by the State . . The Russian worker's motto back then was; "The Government pretends to pay us, and we pretend to work" . .

After being blasted into space on a rocket made with this attitude, the tether was a walk in the park, my bet . .
